Music offers an escape from reality. A favorite song offers three minutes of peace; a chance to breathe and clear your mind. Music has gotten me through some tough times: death, family illness, loss of friends, and lots of drama. When I learned that my Grandma had cancer, I felt like I had no one to talk to. I turned to music to lift my mood. When one of my teachers died, I once again turned to my favorite song.
It reminded me of what my family and friends had done for me: they were always there for me, just like music had always been there for me. You can learn a lot about someone, just by going through their music. Music gives people structure and defines how we live. Anytime I need a smile, I listen to that CD. It is a reminder about what is important.
